Miranda! Revela: Viña los hizo virales con la Gen Z

# Miranda! Previews New Album ‘Hotel Miranda!’ Featuring Star-Studded Collaborations

The Argentinian pop sensation Miranda! recently touched down in Chile, not just to promote their upcoming show, but to give a select few a sneak peek at their highly anticipated new album, *Hotel Miranda!* Culto was on the scene at an exclusive listening party held at the Planetario of USACH, where we chatted with Ale Sergi, one half of the iconic duo.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2001 with infectious hits like “Don,” “Traición,” and “Perfecta,” Miranda! has consistently pushed musical boundaries. Across eleven albums, Juliana Gattas and Ale Sergi have carved out a unique sonic landscape, blending pop sensibilities with avant-garde experimentation and a flair for the eccentric. This extends to their visual presentation, crafting diverse and memorable aesthetics.

*Hotel Miranda!* first dropped in April 2023, and it’s already shaking things up. The album is a reimagining of their classic hits, injected with fresh energy through exciting collaborations.

“Artistically and musically, *Hotel Miranda!* has brought a renewal to our show that we didn’t even know we needed,” Gattas told Culto earlier this year. “We’re super comfortable with the feedback and performing all the hits. We’re not a band that denies our past. We’re fueled by playing our timeless songs and seeing the audience respond.”

Inside *Hotel Miranda!*: New Sounds and Stellar Guests

This new iteration of *Hotel Miranda!* seamlessly blends the past and present. While maintaining the hotel theme, this release boasts ten brand new tracks, each featuring a special guest.

“We take advantage of the talent and creativity of all the collaborators,” Sergi explained to Culto at the Planetario. “Otherwise, why would we invite them? We have all these people willing to work with us, and we like to listen to their ideas and develop them, more than our own, because otherwise we would always make the same album.”

The collaborations on both *Hotel Miranda!* albums are a testament to Miranda!’s enduring appeal. The first album featured the likes of María Becerra, Emilia, Andrés Calamaro, Lali, Sofía Reyes, Ca7riel, and Chile’s own Francisca Valenzuela. Already released singles from the new album showcase collaborations with Diego Torres, Conociendo Rusia, Abraham Mateo, and Ana Mena. At the Planetario event, the remaining collaborators were revealed: Tini, Nicki Nicole, Vicentico, Leo Rizzi, Fito Páez, and Chilean rising star Young Cister.

“It’s a great fortune to have all these names on one album,” Sergi added. “A few years ago, we wouldn’t have been able to do it. With *Hotel Miranda!*, we’re not just taking advantage of collaborations for marketing purposes, we genuinely love the collaborative process itself.”

Sergi revealed that some collaborations happened remotely, including the track with Argentinian rock icon Fito Páez. Despite knowing each other for over two decades and even sharing the stage in the past, this marks their first official collaboration. “Fito recorded in Spain. We sent him the song, and he didn’t make any comments; he said he trusted our music. We recorded a couple of weeks later in the same studio, but we didn’t see each other. Strange coincidences,” Sergi confessed.

Why Pop? Miranda! Defines Their Sound

Miranda! has always defied easy categorization. While often labeled as “pop,” their music incorporates elements of electronica and rock. Sergi embraces the pop label, explaining, “We’ve always called ourselves pop because we feel that pop is super broad, and a lot of things fit in there.”

He continues, “The characteristic of our music, beyond the genre, is that it’s designed to be shared. There aren’t layers and layers to find a message, although maybe it has one, but first it has to be super friendly.”

Regarding the unique rhythms on the new *Hotel Miranda!* tracks, Sergi said, “We wanted to focus on more house or pop-rock rhythms. Not to permeate ourselves too much with Latin rhythms, which we love, but we feel that these are the ones that come to us more naturally.” The listening session at the Planetario revealed a fresh sound, seamless collaborations, and undeniable danceability.

Viña del Mar and Miranda!’s Evolution

Miranda! has graced the stage of the prestigious Viña del Mar Festival three times, in 2006, 2010, and most recently in 2024. Their latest appearance saw Ale Sergi serving as president of the jury for the International and Folkloric Competition.

Their performance earlier this year, which followed Andrea Bocelli, was a highlight. They were joined on stage by Francisca Valenzuela for a vibrant rendition of “Enamorada.”

“The Viña del Mar Festival is a huge platform,” Sergi acknowledges. “It’s impressive. The first time we performed, it opened the door to almost all of Latin America. After that, the phone started ringing from Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, everywhere. Now, when we returned, it was different because we are more accustomed to touring these countries, but it did help us to reach an audience that was not contemporary with us. Many young people saw us for the first time there.”

Miranda!’s multigenerational appeal is undeniable. While their core audience may be in their thirties, their music resonates with listeners of all ages, enriching their discography and spreading freshness through their new songs.

“The contemporaries, those from the beginning, have always supported us. But we saw little kids coming to see us, and we thought, of course, when we recorded the original versions, these creatures had not been born or were in their mothers’ bellies, so it seemed very amazing to us. From there came, unintentionally, the mission of *Hotel Miranda!*: to re-record the songs, so that they sounded like now, not like something with more than twenty years, even though they do have more than twenty years,” he adds.

Miranda! Set to Headline Claro Arena

Miranda! is set to conquer new heights, headlining the Claro Arena (formerly Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo) on November 8th.

This show solidifies the enduring relationship between the Argentinian duo and their Chilean fans. After selling out multiple Movistar Arena shows and triumphing at Viña del Mar, a stadium performance was the next logical step. Following in the footsteps of Morat, Miranda! is embarking on their first stadium tour.

“We have already described the general guidelines of the concert. We are preparing the visual part, and on stage, we are somehow going to close the Hotel Miranda as you knew it, to open the new one,” Sergi reveals.

The visual aesthetic is a crucial element of the *Hotel Miranda!* project. The music videos are set in a hotel, where Juliana and Ale play the hosts. The concept revolves around guest artists being “abducted” by the hotel’s atmosphere. The new album embraces an intergalactic theme, complete with aliens.

“The new *Hotel Miranda!* is abducted by extraterrestrials, it is totally seized by alien forces, and the owners of the hotel, who before moved freely through the facilities, now cannot do it so much. Now they take us prisoner and give us things so that we are half-asleep during the day and use the facilities as they want,” he explains. “I don’t know what these extraterrestrials intend, but you will see. The whole idea occurred, as always, to Melanie Anton, director of everything that has been *Hotel Miranda!*, the old one and the new one.”

Miranda! Reflects on Their Journey

Reflecting on Miranda!’s current moment, Sergi speaks of their progress in recent years and the overwhelming support they’ve received from fellow artists eager to collaborate on *Hotel Miranda!*.

“We are very anxious, eager to show the album and start the tour. Also, as much as we don’t want to, because we are not very fond of looking back, we also take stock. The weight of our career has become evident in us, there are things that happen that you cannot overlook, good things, I mean,” Sergi analyzes.

He also touches upon their multigenerational impact: “Seeing several generations, the mother, the grandmother, and the daughter singing our songs together at our shows, is a source of pride and great joy. We feel happy and content with everything we have achieved and very grateful, because although we worked for it, we feel that we earned what we have,” he concludes.
