Elizalde: Tensión PS-FA no debe afectar votación en Cámara

Elizalde Minimizes PS-FA Tension: Will it Impact the Chamber Election?

Interior Minister Álvaro Elizalde addresses concerns about potential fallout from recent political friction between the Partido Socialista (PS) and the Frente Amplio (FA). In an exclusive statement to Cooperativa, Elizalde downplayed the significance of the dispute over Senator Isabel Allende’s removal from the Constitutional Court, asserting it “should not influence” the upcoming election for leadership of the Chamber of Deputies.

Despite the tensions, Elizalde remains optimistic. He conveyed that PS parliamentarians have assured him of their unwavering commitment to the governing coalition’s unity. This suggests that support for Frente Amplio’s Camila Rojas, a candidate for the Chamber’s leadership, remains firm.

Elizalde emphasized the crucial importance of progressive unity, stating it is “a basic value for facing challenges that we have as a country, when extreme positions question basic civilizational achievements of democratic systems. I expect a sense of responsibility from all actors.” His words serve as a call for collaboration amidst political headwinds.
